Can I really earn money from Google Adsense?

Dear readers,

Today, I shall share with you my success with Google Adsense.
YES! You can earn from Google Adsense. I’ve just reached the minimum payout of USD$100 and I am delighted to share my strategies with you.

For all skeptics out there, let me show you a proof of my earnings first.

Google Earnings

I must admit that I took very long to hit this USD$100 mark because I had the wrong perception of Internet Marketing. My number one mistake was thinking that, if you build it, they will come. Many internet marketers out there would come to realise that this is definitely not true. When I created my first website, I simply placed an Adsense banner on the top of the page. For months, zero earnings came in for me. But due to work, I didn’t really have the time to focus on Google Adsense at that time.

In January, I decided to create a new portal for the local e-commerce scene. My marketing strategy was to create an avenue that brings online shoppers and merchants together. For revenue, I decided to use Google Adsense as the primary income generating tool until the traffic was big enough to pitch to direct advertisers. This website was shortly launched as OurMall.sg.

In April, I decided to do a revamp on OurMall.sg’s look-and-feel. At the same time, I wanted to fine-tune my Google Adsense banners as well because they still weren’t bring in the dough for me.

I read up on lots of online materials about generating revenue with Google Adsense. I understood that it is very important to adhere to Google Adsense’s terms and policies so that I wouldn’t get my account suspended.

Now here’s the juicy part. What did I do to get a high click-through rate (after all, you only earn from Google Adsense when visitors click on the ads)?

Here are a few tips that worked for me:

  1. Blend the ads into your website by using the same fonts and colours for your website and the adsense ads.

  2. Place the ads strategically in the middle of the web page. Ads on the side yield a poorer click through rate.

  3. Make use of Adsense channels to categorize your your ads to track your performance.

  4. Use Google search for your website. I generated quite a bit of my earnings from clicks on ads in the Google search results.

  5. Never click on your own ads or get others to click on your ads because you will never be able to get a clear indication of your Google Adsense performance.

With the strategies listed above, I was able to generate USD$50 in May alone.

Google Earnings

For me, Google Adsense is just a start to web advertising. Once my website has grown to have a substantial amount of visitors, it would be time to approach advertisers directly and ignore the middleman (Google).

I hope you have learnt something to improve your Google Adsense earnings. Now it’s time to take action and increase your click-through rates.
