Filed Under (Personal Finance Management) by Chris How on 28-11-2007

Dear readers,

Everyone has their own Finance Operating System (F.O.S). The F.O.S essentially determines how one perceives the value of money. Because some people have a ’higher version’ of F.O.S as compared to others, they tend to be able to attain a higher networth over time.

Here’s my guideline on enhancing your F.O.S:

  1. Upgrade your Finance Operating System
  2. Uninstall unnecessary resources
  3. Install anti-virus software
  4. Install additional plug-ins
  5. F.O.S Maintenance

Upgrade your Finance Operating System
Upgrade your F.O.S by acquiring more knowledge on Personal Finance Management. This can be done through books, mentorship, and even learning from experiences of friends and family members. Maintain a balance sheet and profit & loss statement detailing your networth, revenues and expenditures.

Uninstall unnecessary resources
Work on reducing bad debts. Start with those debts that charge the highest amount of interests. Focus on unloading the burdens that increase your cash outflow so that you can accumulate your networth.

Install anti-virus software
Remove money-wasting virus such as Impulse_Spending.exe and Excessive_Spending.bat to reduce unnecessary spending. Detect negative purchasing habits and identify them promptly.

Install additional plug-ins
Here are some examples of plug-ins that can enhance your F.O.S:

  • Research_101.exe
Perform due diligence by researching about the product in order to make well-informed purchasing decisions.
  • BATNA.exe
Understand and apply the essential skills of negotiation to secure the best bargain.
  • Asset_Identifer.exe
Spend on items which appreciate in value over time. Avoid spending too much on consumables.
  • Leverager.exe
Leverage on your assets and skills to acquire added benefits.

F.O.S Maintenance
Update your balance sheet and profit & loss statement constantly to keep track of your the health of your F.O.S. Keep your anti-virus software up to date with the latest viruses to detect bad spending habits. Install new plug-ins to customise and enhance your F.O.S according to your needs and preferences.
